Professor Roy Douglas

Prof Roy Douglas currently holds the positions of Chief Technical Officer, Director and Co-founder of CATAGEN Ltd, a net-zero spinout company from Queen’s University. Concurrently, he serves as an Emeritus Professor at Queen’s University Belfast, a member of the Automotive Council Technical Committee in the UK and a member of the International Advisory Board for the Virtual Vehicle Research Centre at TU Graz, Austria.

He has over 40 years of experience in engine research, systems modelling and automotive after-treatment. His professional focus over the last 25 years has honed in on advancing the performance of automative aftertreatment systems, with particular emphasis on applied catalysis at the interface between chemistry and engineering. He is keenly interested in improved air quality through application of ultra-low emissions technology on the roadmap to net-zero emissions.

During his academic career, he has published over 100 technical papers with 4 granted patents and 6 new patents pending: Throughout his academic tenure, he has been instrumental in mentoring and guiding more than 40 PhD research students and 20 post-doctoral research fellows. Noteworthy is his role as the founder and director of the Wrightbus Technology Centre at Queen’s.

Recently he transitioned from his role at Queen’s University to assume the role of CTO at CATAGEN. Since his full-time engagement with the company in 2021, CATAGEN has embarked on a groundbreaking mission to develop cutting-edge net-zero technologies, aligning with the UK’s imperative commitment to decarbonisation. He is delighted to announce that these technological advancements have matured into a second phase, poised for pilot-plant demonstrations in 2024 and subsequent commercialisation in 2025. His current endeavour positions him at the forefront of sustainable technology, contributing meaningfully to the global pursuit to clean and decarbonise the air.
